MARITIME FOREST
Walk through and explore our barrier island's coastal woodland ecosystem. Students will investigate from top to bottom discovering plants, animals and decomposers that live in it. With a focus on trees, students will learn all about the climax community for Assateague island.

Class Goals:
- Make observations and define levels of forest habitat
- Actively learn about the parts of a tree
- Observe different trees and come up with ways to identify tree species
- Discuss stresses inherent to maritime forest habitats and how plants have adapted
- Search for evidence of primary and secondary succession
