BIRDING VIRGINIA'S EASTERN SHORE: ASSATEAGUE, CHINCOTEAGUE & WALLOPS ISLAND

During the migratory season, millions of birds along the Atlantic Flyway "funnel" through this small area along Virginia’s Eastern Shore. More than 400 species have been recorded on these islands. Explore the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge's restricted back country on Chincoteague and Assateague Island. Keep an eye out for some wild ponies! Gain access to restricted Wallops Island to bird in this unspoiled environment maintained by NASA. Examine geological and environmental factors that influence birds and their habitats. Learn identification methods using field markings, vocalizations, and behavior patterns. Other highlights include an interpretive dune and beaches walk of Delmarva.
