University and Research Summer Assistant
This is a seasonal, full time position.
Position dates: April 22 - August 10 2024 Pay: $5,120 stipend Benefits: room + board, 800sqft furnished 2 bed/1 bath apartment with all utilities included and max. one roommate. Meals provided when the dining hall is open. The Chincoteague Bay Field Station is seeking an individual with strong organizational and leadership skills to work with our University & Research (U&R) team during the summer. The Field Station offers 12 weeks of marine science-related college courses and is seeking a Summer Assistant for the U&R department to work in both field and residential settings. In this position, you will lead kayak trips in the tidal creeks and marshes, and complete other physical and administrative tasks to meet program goals. The Summer Assistant position also shares the responsibility, with the U&R Interns, of overseeing the college community in residential aspects. This includes monitoring housing, rule enforcement, and recreation as our goal is to create a safe, productive, and enjoyable environment for all students. The U&R Summer Assistant reports to the U&R Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator, supervises the U&R Interns in all aspects of their jobs, and is a part of the Field Station’s education team. Training for this position will occur during the first two weeks of employment and is specific to the U&R Program and other summer job duties. This position is no longer open. Seasonal Housekeeper
Position Start Date: End of February to early March
Position End Date: Mid-August through Mid-November (flexible) $12 - $15/hour dependent on experience Housekeepers are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of all program areas at CBFS including but not limited to residence halls, common areas, lab and classroom spaces, and office buildings. The regular schedule is Monday through Friday 8am - 4:30pm, but weekend work may be required during the busiest times of the year. Experience in housekeeping is preferred but not necessary - we are willing to train the right candidate! Housekeeping staff is expected to maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times, especially when interacting with program participants and guests. Uniform shirts are provided. This position has the potential to be extended and/or for a promotion depending on performance! A bonus will be awarded at the end of a successfully completed contract. Seasonal Food Service Team Member

Food service team members are responsible for preparing and serving food, cafeteria-style, to both large and small groups of all ages. Food service team members are responsible for safe handling and preparation of food, serving food to participants, and cleaning and re-setting the dining hall between groups and meals, including dishes. Food service team members should have a positive attitude, be comfortable interacting with participants of all ages, and have knowledge of common dietary restrictions and allergies (vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, peanut/tree nut, etc.). ServSafe certification preferred but not required. Staff meal provided for all shifts worked.
