University & Research Intern
Number of positions available: 3 Position Dates: May 11 - August 8, 2026 $1000 stipend, Room & Board Gain hands-on experience at a marine science field station while learning valuable technical and interpersonal skills. University & Research (U&R) Interns are immersed in the daily operations of the Chincoteague Bay Field Station, conduct research, and develop leadership skills as they support college students as resident advisors. Internships occur during our four summer sessions, beginning two weeks prior to, and ending at the completion of summer sessions. The intern will work three out of the four sessions, and may attend a course during their session off. Applications are now closed for this position. Content and Social Engagement Intern

Marketing and Media Interns will also develop leadership skills as they support college students as resident advisors. HIGH SCHOOL INTERNSHIPS

Coastal Education and Leadership Program
Position Dates: June 15- August 14, 2026 Number of internships available: 2 $500 stipend + room and board We are looking for 2 rising high school juniors or seniors or recent high school grads with an interest in education, biology or science. Students must have a strong academic profile and be interested in an opportunity to work in an outdoor environmental education setting. Interns will spend a lot of time outdoors in marine environments. Students who are enthusiastic and outgoing, can work easily with others and are organized with good attention to detail will be the best fit for this internship. Interns must be at least 16 years old by the start date of the internship. For 9 weeks students will live and work on the main campus of the Chincoteague Bay Field Station, located in Wallops Island, VA. This internship includes two main components: assisting with programs and enrichment. Students will work alongside program staff to provide environmental education programs and explore the exciting marine habitats of Virginia’s Eastern Shore. This program is a wonderful opportunity to enhance and develop self-confidence, self-awareness, communication skills, and personal leadership style. The internship is a unique opportunity for students to gain job experience, to learn about the exciting field of Marine Science Education and to make new friends.
