COASTAL BOTANY

Dig deeper into the world of coastal plants. Students will get a chance to get an up close look at specially adapted coastal plants plants and understand why they are so important to coastal ecosystems. Students will compare different coastal plants across different ecosystems found on a barrier island. Students will even get the chance to create plant presses of their favorite coastal plants to take home with them.  

Class Goals:
  • Investigate the characteristics, anatomy, morphology, and ecology of plants
  • Discuss the ecological importance of coastal plant species
  • Understand the need for conservation of vegetation
  • Discuss how herbariums help with conservation and science of plants
