WETLAND ECOLOGY - MARSCI250
DR. LAURI GREEN - BLOOMSBURG UNIVERSITY
Course Description:
This is a field course where we will investigate freshwater and marine wetlands (swamps, marshes, bogs and basically anywhere that is wet and muddy). We will learn about the biological, chemical and geological characteristics of wetland types and investigate the impacts of human interference with ecosystem function.

As students of this course, you will:
1.    Learn to identify key components of wetlands, understand important functions and learn about the ecosystem services these habitats provide.
2.    Integrate ecological responses across different levels of biological organization to describe adaptations to the environment.
3.    Gain experience with ecological field methods and materials.
4.    Develop quantitative skills through design and analysis of ecological experiments.

Ecological field methods
Experimental design
Data analysis
Scientific writing
Presentation and interview skills

​General Description of Field Activities:
Learn geomorphology, plant and animal identification and experimental design.

Approximate Amount of Course Time in Field: 
50%

Prerequisites: 
One semester of college-level biology.

Required Textbook or Supplies: 
- Required readings will be provided by the professor
-Notebook for fieldwork, bug spray, at least three changes of clothes that can get muddy, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunblock).
- Optional: Binoculars, bathing suit for a beach day
