MARITIME FOREST

Walk back in time on Assateague Island.  Students will investigate the maritime forest from top to bottom discovering decomposers and other animals that call the forest home.

Class Goals:

• Make observations and define levels of forest habitat
• Actively learn about the parts of a tree
• Observe different trees and come up with ways to identify tree species
• Discuss stresses inherent to maritime forest habitats and how plants have adapted
• Search for evidence of primary and secondary succession
