Education Staff

These are the faces of the amazing staff members that lead our programs. They bring a wealth of knowledge from across the United States and are excited to be a part of the 2020 CBFS team. Get to know them while on program with us!

Jackie Knoll- Master Educator

Picture
Jackie was born and raised outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and received a degree in Environmental Studies from Skidmore College in upstate New York. Her love of the ocean was solidified during her semester abroad in the Turks and Caicos with The School for Field Studies. Following graduation, Jackie worked with a nonprofit in Berkeley, California teaching environmental education. Most recently, Jackie was working as an educator with Haw River State Park in North Carolina. When she is not working, Jackie enjoys traveling, fishing, gardening, hiking, watching Philadelphia sports and doing crosswords.

Alison Wood
Field Station Educator

Picture
Hello! My name is Alison Wood and I'm originally from Enola, Pennsylvania. I graduated from Millersville University in 2018 with a B.S. in Biology with a concentration in Marine Biology. During my time at MU, I had the opportunity to attend field courses here at CBFS and learn more about our bays and oceans. I have loved marine life ever since I was a little kid and now I am happy to have the opportunity to educate students about the different species that live around our coastal bays.

Laura Kee
Adult and Family Educator

Picture
Laura is from Weston, Massachusetts and graduated with a degree in Atmospheric Science and Climate Change from Cornell University last year. Her passion for protecting the ocean and shoreline ecosystems grew as a result of spending summers exploring the many harbors, bays, and coastal waterways that surround eastern Long Island, NY. After interning at the weather observatory on the summit Mt. Washington in NH last year, and experiencing the extreme weather that the mountain is famous for, she is looking forward to living and working along Virginia’s barrier islands – while sharing her love of the outdoors with others.

Field Station Educator

My passion for marine ecology was sparked through family trips to the Pacific coast and an Idaho high school teacher’s digression to coral bleaching. Now having completed my M.S. in Marine Biology & Ecology at the Great Barrier Reef, I am a certified coral nerd.

Lindsay Spotts
Field Station Educator

Picture
Hi! My name is Lindsay Spotts. I grew up in Coatesville, PA. I went to college at University of New Hampshire with a degree in Marine, Estuarine, and Freshwater Biology. Since I graduated in May 2018, I have been lucky to work in some pretty gorgeous places. I was a seasonal naturalist in Rye, NH working with school age groups exploring the Rocky Intertidal Zones along the coast. Then, I was an AmeriCorps VISTA member at Phillips Wharf Environmental Center on Tilghman Island in Maryland. Located right on the Chesapeake Bay, I helped create and promote educational programs for many schools in the area. I love being near the water, hiking, kayaking, and exploring new places!

Allyson Lance
Adult & Family Educator

Picture
Hi, I’m Allyson! I’m from Pottstown, PA (a suburb of Philadelphia) and in 2018 I graduated from Miami University (Ohio) with a degree in Zoology and Environmental Science and a German minor. When I was a teenager, I visited CBFS with my biology class, and it ended up being my most cherished memory from high school. That trip ultimately guided my decision to pursue my degree in the biological/environmental sciences, so I’m super excited to be a part of the education team and help provide guests with as inspirational of an experience as I had when I first visited!

Jacob Mikullitz
Field Station Educator

Jacob is from the town of Enfield, Connecticut. He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Connecticut, where his studies focused on ecology, environmental science, and education.

Britton Hayman
Field Station Educator

My name is Allee and I’m a recent graduate of Millersville University. I grew up in a small town along the Juniata River and knew since I was a little kid that working in the ocean was the only career path for me. Fortunately, this field has taken me to several places in the US already! I spent a summer in Mississippi at the Gulf Coast Research Lab and then as a NOAA Northeast Fisheries Division volunteer traveling up the coast from New England to Nova Scotia. One of the first field courses I took was at Chincoteague Bay Field Station and I’m so excited to be back as an educator!
Hi! My name is Britton and I'm from San Diego. I graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in psychology and a minor in conservation biology. I am an avid adventurer and love sailing, snorkeling, camping, kayaking, and being outdoors. I am super excited to explore Chincoteague and share my passion for conservation.
